How to Make Homemade Hot Dogs or Frankfurts

Hot dogs or Frankfurters are nothing more than ground meat with seasonings. You can make them out of Pork or a mix of Beef and Pork. Simply use one of our seasoning mixes (German or Polish is recommended) without the cure added and follow these preparation instructions.

PREPARATION:
Step 1. You can use either collagen or all natural casings for Hot Dogs.
Step 2. Follow the instructions for the Hi Mountain sausage of your choice,DO NOT ADD CURE
Step 3. Stuff the casings to the length of Hot Dog you desire.
Step 4. Parboil the Hot Dogs(without separating them) in simmering water for 20 minutes.
Step 5. Place the Hot Dogs in a bowl of ice water and chill thoroughly.
Step 6. Remove, pat dry, and refrigerate.

Storage:
Because the Hot Dogs are precooked, they can be refrigerated for up to a week or they can be frozen.

To prepare the Hot Dogs for eating, simply boil or grill and serve in a bun with a great sauce, we recommend either the Gunslinger Bold & Spicy Steak or the Hickory smoked BBQ, or if you like the idea of a Chilli Dog then add Jalapeno.
